Plasmodium malariae schizont in thin film - note 6 - 12 merozoites in non-enlarged red cell and abundant dark brown pigment in centre. ( This is in a thick part of the film so not ideal but often P. malariae infections have low parasitemias so that it is necessary to thoroughly examine the blood films and the parasites are not always observed in areas of ideal thickness. Also film shows signs of ageing).
